Work, work, work…

Work, work, work.  While school does not start until Tuesday, we’ve been at school all week getting things ready so that the students can jump right in and learn.  There are lessons to plan, discipline procedures to create, bare walls that are aching to have posters put up on them.  On top of that work, Wednesday to Friday I was back in Unalakleet for some more training.  It’s been a week full of to do lists, but thankfully it’s also been a week of getting things done.  There’s nothing worse than the former without the latter!

I’m wary of talking too much about work; everyone knows (and dislikes) that person who endlessly talks only about their job at a cocktail party, impeding the genial conversation of everyone else.  But there are a few things that need pointing out about my work and my work-life balance.  First, I have a completely gorgeous, well-equipped classroom.  Second, I have been nothing but impressed with everyone that I work with.  Third, my commute to work is about 45 seconds in the morning and about a minute at night (I have to walk down the hill in the morning and back up in the evening).  Fourth, I’ve been walking home each day for lunch and making myself something. Now, this last one may not seem like a very big deal, but it adds about two points to my daily happiness rating. I have never been a morning person, and making lunch to bring to work in the morning was just that one extra step that pushed a tired me into a grouchy me.  And finally, in rare form for a teacher, I never have to bring work home with me.  Of course, I go back to school after dinner many evenings, but at least I’ll never need to lug the huge teachers edition textbooks, red pens, student papers, or any school work back to my house.

Good luck. I know you’ll do fine. We go back to work on the 25th, with Jim at the helm and Gary as assistant principal. Let me know if I can send you anything.

I hear you on the make-lunch-in-the-morning thing; it is the single most time consuming part of my morning routine.

Good luck with your first day! Can’t wait to read about it.
