FAQ
Dear Erika,
Why haven’t you updated your blog in weeks?
What are you teaching?
XOXO,
Your Friend
The above questions have popped up in my e-mail quite a few times in the past weeks so I thought I’d take this opportunity to answer them. Basically, the answer to the second question explains everything about the first question. I teach 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. I teach US History, 5th Grade Math, Reading, Global History, and Alaskan History. As if that weren’t enough, I coach cross country every afternoon.
Now, certainly I do not list the above things as a way of griping…I teach this and this and ugh, I teach that too…. As a matter of fact, I love the variety that I have in my day and thoroughly enjoy teaching each class. Yet, it turns out that having 7 different classes to plan for, a team to coach, and a kitten to take care of means that writing and reflecting have become luxuries that I lust after. The paradox of this all is that the more things I do during my day, the more there is to write about. Nothing as cutting edge as butchering a seal has happened in the past few weeks, but we have hosted a cross country meet here, I have gotten to know people in the community far better, and I have had some hilarious moments with my students. Rest assured, I still exist and the blog will resume its regularly scheduled program after the season is over. In the meantime, when you check this and there isn’t a post cross your fingers and help me wish for good luck so that one of my Cross Country runners qualifies for the state championships.
