Shortly after we hung up our stockings, I glanced up an noticed a present sticking out of mine. Kyle saw me looking at it and asked if I wanted to open it.
I hemmed and hawed. My thoughts were, “If I open it there will be less on Christmas morning…but, I am feeling awfully pregnant and tired, maybe this will make me very happy.” I decided to open it. Then I changed my mind. Then I reversed my decision. After about ten minutes of this deliberation, I finally stuck with my decision to open it.
Kyle retrieved the box from the stocking. I noticed that it was long and thin and exclaimed, “Oh, you got me some jewelry!!!”
I excitedly began to unwrap it. As I tore off the wrapping paper I began to get some signs that it was not jewelry: the texture of the box wasn’t right and the weight was too heavy.
The unwrapping revealed not jewelry, but a new Wustof paring knife. I took it out of the box and jumped up with excitement to give Kyle a hug.
“Hold on, put the knife down before you come hug me,” he laughed.
Hugging Kyle and laughing I remarked, “Maybe it’s weird that I’m more excited about a kitchen knife than jewelry, but you sure know me well!”
He replied, “Yup, I do. And I’m pretty proud of this one because I found it myself before I even saw that you had it on your wish list!”
